Larry Porter Larry Porter is working as a grant developer for the National Center at Norwich University . Larry retired (Colonel, USARNG) from the Army National Guard with just under 34 years of service, ending with 18 years of AGR (Active Guard / Reserve) service. His last duty assignment was as the National Guard Liaison Officer to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), where his interest in emergency management was stimulated. He began to take courses at The George Washington University, with the emergency management curriculum offered by GWU's Institute for Crisis, Disaster, and Risk Management, initially completing the requirements for a Graduate Certificate in Crisis, Disaster, and Risk Management. He then matriculated into the Doctor of Science in Engineering Management program of emergency management. He has completed the academic requirements for the degree (54 credits), and is currently working on research for the dissertation. While at FEMA, he watched the growth of the Department of Homeland Security from its beginnings, and maintains a close overwatch in many aspects of Homeland Security. Larry also works for the Norwich University Online Graduate Programs, where he has developed emergency management, business continuity, and homeland security graduate certificate course content, and is currently instructing a 12-credit certificate course, “Principles of Emergency Management and Business Continuity in Today's Homeland Security Environment.” |
