Selected staff biographies and capabilities

Michael Hillinger, Director

Michael Hillinger has been with NUARI since August 2005. Prior to that he was a Senior Researcher at Norwich University. Before coming to Norwich he was the founder and principal of Lexicon Systems, a software consulting and development group providing education, training and marketing solutions. Dr. Hillinger has an extensive experience designing new instructional methods including simulations, serious games, and case studies for a diverse client base that includes the National Science Foundation, the US Department of Education, and The Army National Guard. He holds a Ph.D. in Cognitive Science.

Mark Lorah, Senior Web Developer

Mr. Lorah has been with NUARI since 2005 and has been associated with Norwich University since 2001, designing and developing online courseware. Previously, he was a web developer for the TMG Corporation and has worked as an independent consultant in the area of interactive media. Mr. Lorah has been responsible for creating the graphic design, programming architecture and learning modules for NUARI courseware. He specializes in Flash and other web based media. He holds a BFA from Rhode Island School of Design.

Roula Creighton, Instructional Designer

Ms. Creighton has been with NUARI since 2005. Prior to joining NUARI, Ms. Creighton was the a Staff Development Specialist responsible for all staff training and development initiatives at the Syracuse University Library. Her experience includes curriculum and training development using instructional design and adult learning principles to develop customized performance solutions for customers. Having worked as an Instructional Systems Specialist for the Army's School of Armor at Ft. Knox, Kentucky, Ms. Creighton has experience with the Army's Systems Approach to Training (SAT) process and TRADOC standards for course development. Ms. Creighton holds a Master of Science in Education and a Master of Science in Instructional Design, Development, and Evaluation.

Ian Sears, Senior Web Programmer

Ian Sears has developed a variety of web-based course solutions for Norwich University and NUARI for since 1999. His background includes free-lance work as a Hollywood production and post-production editor, and as Macintosh Tech Lead for the Integrated Help Desk at McDonnell Douglas Aerospace. Mr Sears is current with the latest developments in SCORM, CORDRA, DRM, and HANDLE. He also has experience with PHP, Flash/ActionScript, PhotoShop, Illustrator, and Final Cut Pro. Mr. Sears attended the USC Scholar's program at PCC in Pasadena, California in pursuit of a degree in USC's College of Film/Television.

Jenifer Kim, Information Operations Subject Matter Expert (SME)

Ms. Kim joined NUARI in November of 2006. Before joining NUARI, she worked with the Air Force for over 13 years with network/computer security and information assurance. Prior to leaving the Air Force, she worked as a Subject Matter Expert for Network Warfare and was in charge of developing, maintaining, and instructing is six Air Force level courses within the realm of Information Operations. Ms. Kim holds a Bachelors of Science in Information Technology and is currently working towards a Masters of Arts in Education, Curriculum and Instruction.
